Have been growing my own for a wee whiley now, but I wouldn't say I'm super experienced, in fact each year my harvest seems to shrink!! complacency perhaps? This year will be my 6th year of growing your own and I had hoped for a bumper harvest ...

This year I have high hopes for a mega pumpkin patch and kids in the hood can come and pick their own. Have also trying my hand at legumes - thats peas and beans to non-gardening folks as well as my usual successes of courgettes, tomatoes, cucumbers and chillies. But sadly this is not the year for grow your own, normally by this time fruits are appearing and the harvesting begins but hardly anything is growing or what little buds are forming are getting eaten by birds and snails - boo hoo.
This time I made a few samples before starting, normally I wouldn't do this as I thought it would be a waste of time. BUT since I kept getting annoyed with myself and not liking my colour choices halfway through but had committed already so had to finish so this time I bit the bullet and made a ton of colourway samples.

A couple of contenders came out on top - loving the white/teal/aqua/ combo and the white/grey/pink/mint combo.

This blanket was a small part of the stitch sampler blanket, which I blogged about previously here. But below is a quickie pattern on what I did for this one:

DC = Double Crochet
CH = Chain
ST = Stitch
HDC = Half Double Crochet

Chain 121

Row 1 - skip 1st ch, dc in each ch.
Row 2 - Ch 1, skip 1st ch, *dc in next st, ch 1, miss 1 st* Repeat from * till end of row
Row 3 - Ch2 (counts as 1st HDC), HDC in same st, *2 HDC in ch1 space* Repeat from * to end.
Row 4 - Ch1, DC in between HDC cluster from row below (see pic above) Repeat from * to end

Repeat rows 3 & 4 until you reach length required. For the border I just did DC in white all the way around for about 5/6 rows.

And here is the completed blankie - love this one and I think I'll do a few more with different colour combos.

So that one gets taken all round the town while my next creation is a sit at home and concentrate number.

I've been a little bit taken with some crochet-a-long blankets and stitch samplers blankets on Pinterest. So internet once again gets trawled and I find this pattern on ravelry by Janine Holmes for Let's Get Crafting magazine.

Next - colours!! I love this part, my mind goes into overdrive fantasizing about the finished product (what a nerd!!) So I settled on these pastelly brights (is there such a thing?) with white as a base. In hindsight I think these colours are a bit too bright for me but they still work great together and still look fab. I think I'd like to do another one with same colours but a shade or two paler. I used a combination of Stylecraft and random double knit yarns from my stash.

This one worked out alot lot quicker than the popcorn blanket and colours looked fantastic together. Am quite pleased!!

Not the best pattern, there is a bit of phaff and wordiness regarding the start and finish of each row which resulted in a bit of wonkyness at the ends. Which did demotivate me a little - I ended up just getting the jist of what the row should be and using my own knowledge to straighten the sides up. But the border seems to have straightened it up a bit more.

I started this one while on honeymoon at the start of the year, I needed a nice easy no brainer knitting pattern. Believe it or not it's hard juggling a pattern with multiple balls of wool at 30,000ft!! I also wanted one that wasn't boring either and had a bit of texture - fussy or what! It took me a while to find the perfect pattern, but I came across this one with a cute popcorn stitch.

I had a ton of this silvery metallic Patons yarn bought for the bargainous price of £10 for 10 balls from hobbycraft many moons ago, now I finally have a big project that might use up all 10 balls. It has a lovely a neutral metallic silver colour - perfect. I am ready to go!!

Here's me knitting on the go in Disneyland - waiting waiting waiting for hubby while he's on some rides. It was a bit pants to have to sit out most all the rides but I didn't really mind so long as there was sun and knitting!
In that year and a bit loads and loads have happened!! We got married for one - yay!! and now we have a baby on the way - yay!!!
<span style="font-family: "courier new" , "courier" , monospace;">

<span style="font-family: "courier new" , "courier" , monospace;">So you must be thinking crazy woman you'll be busier than ever but I feel I am ready to start blogging again and I'm hopeful that maternity leave will grant me oodles of time to indulge in nesting activities. <strike>Aye right sniggers the other mums, wait till the reality hits and the baby won't stop crying.</strike> But I am optimistic, I will do my best to make sure that I still have a life even if I am in a sleep deprived bubble for 6 months.
<span style="font-family: "courier new" , "courier" , monospace;">

<span style="font-family: "courier new" , "courier" , monospace;">Classes have once again started for the year and they are going well, we now do them in the crafty cabin, which I don't think has been shared on the blog but if you follow me on instagram @boboliddell you will find loads more updates on our crafty adventures. But plenty and plenty of time to fill you in on what's been happening but for now heres some pics from the past year of what I've been making.
january to recover!! Not to mention our wee jaunt to the Hong of Kong
for our first holiday in 4 years!! our first since we embarked on our
I Heart Art adventure. We decided this holiday would also be a good
time to really work on our business plan and and map out the future
of I Heart Art and the result is some very big changes!

Firstly you may have migrated from various social network links to
this blog post to see why we have decided to close down the shop –
closing down the shop – OMG!!! yes I know its a big step and a big
change. But fret not, in our far eastern soul searching we really sat
down and asked ourselves, what's working and what's not and the
answer is – classes and parties work. Ceramic cafe not. If its not
working should we give it all up?? At first I was like yes – lets
just draw a line, I am a little frazzled and tired and fed up of
copycats and having to constantly think of new things and competing.
In my grand old age of 30 ive lost the drive a little and just want
an easy life. but christmas was so busy (I suppose thats why I was
so tired as well. I felt like one of those hamsters on a wheel!!)
Plus we always get amazing feedback and it seems such a shame to give
it all up. I absolutely LOVE meeting all the different people over
the years and many have become good friends, what a cheesefest, but
its true!!. And I really do recognise that we are offering something
different in Aberdeen still to this day. Perhaps we are too different
and not mainstream enough??

So our next thought was If the classes and parties work, do I
really need a physical location? Our conclusion is no. Nowadays with
internet shopping many businesses are really asking themselves that
question, the reason being rent and rates are extortionate,
especially in our oil rich city of Aberdeen. On top of that, parking
is expensive in the city centre as well as navigating the congestion,
a lot of people just wont come into town, weekend or weekdays, I
suppose these are the modern day challenges facing most towns and
cities up and down the country and at the end of it all its the small
businesses that suffer. And I have a lot of fans out in the shire.

So after all that we feel that we no longer need a physical
outlet, my classes can operate closer to the customers in community
centres, church halls, scout huts etc and the parties can operate as
a mobile service. I can also work from home where I hope to install
the kiln in my gigantic new garage, perhaps build a cute wee summer
house to run classes from. Working from home will give me more time
to work on other aspects of the business ive been neglecting ie my
online etsy shops and blogging (of course haha!!).

So please don't shed a tear for us, we'll still be around offering
I Heart Art mobile services and we are moving onto pastures new with
the hope that it can be a little bit more relaxed, we still get to be
involved in a business we love but also have time for US. That's
another major reason we are closing the shop, it really is time to
live our lives again. Its been 4 years of constant working day and
night, events at the weekends, networking at night, admin in the
mornings and it was a bit silly as I left the high-powered stressball
job for this as I believe that you work to live rather than live to
work. So enough is enough, time for our personal lives! Especially
since mitchell and I got engaged in Hong Kong!!! whoo hoo, after 11
years he's finally popped the question and ready to make an honest
woman out of me. So its gonna be one hell of a year crafting and
planning party of the century! Im hoping to not dissapoint on the craft and creative front
so watch out wedding world!!

and i leave you with a lovely piccie of my bling in one of our most favouritest places in the world in all its skyscraper and neon light glory.
Yet again it was muchos stress and sleepless nights running up to the big day with many a late night crafting the vintage santa's grotto out of vintage materials. Thankfully it looked amazing on the day and i even surpassed my own expectations since i was still pom pom making until the 9th hour!

Vintage santas grotto was covered with hessian and lace for a rustic christmas touch and glammed up with these red metallic foil pinwheels. These were an absolute nightmare to make given that the metallic foil is not very forgiving and shows up every little blemish. I won't be making those in a hurry again. Then garlands of poms poms were draped in an artful manner, topped up with fairy lights and piles of vintage inspired wrapped gifts. I made my own holly leaves from vintage fabrics and sewed pages of old books together. I even typed up a wee letter to santa - i sure hope he gets it!

Not only was i stressing majorly about the grotto i had my own stall to sort and organise. This time i vowed i would be super organised and get everything sorted into bags beforehand as i did worry a little about getting all to the hotel on time! i did create extra work much to mitchells annoyance but it was worth it! I bought a million massive re-usuable bags from nickle and dime and put all bags together, all sewing boxes together etc etc. it did make transporting everything so much easier this time round. So halloween night was spent ironing and labelling from dawn till dusk in between running down to open the door for trick or treaters!

On the day my extra organisation paid off, my stall was set up after an hour and half with time to spare to get changed and even put on make-up and style my hair!! that almost never happens. After 3 christmas fairs maybe im learning?
My stall was a treasure trove of vintage tins, am sad the 70s bold orange and yellow floral print was gone but gone to a good home nevertheless. Singers and baby sewing machines... I usually am sold out of these but was left with both of them at the end of the day, despite me offering a very good deal on a 20s singer with Tutankhamen pattern. And my usual collection of handbags, as you can see i do have a weakness for a good tan leather bag!

For the past 2 years ive desperately wanted to host a harry potter themed halloween party and this year was the year. Every year i say "oh no got too much on, next year.... " And this year with turning 30 Mitchell kindly started the ball rolling for a birthday bash at the new house... well one thing led to another and i thought YOLO (oh dont forget the hash tag #YOLO!!!!) and the potter birthday bash planning was in full swing.

I carved about a million pumpkins, i carved 7 of them to spell out WELCOME to greet the guests as they came through the door and then carved 2 fancy ones. This year i was a bit short on time so they werent my best handiwork, so i recycled last years cat pumpkin and then did an owl design on the other.

The weather was horrendous that day and the tealights were just not lighting up so i filled the pumpkins with glo-sticks instead which was pretty effective, especially for the skull as it was glowing red. (the skulls were ceramic skulls taken from my shop)

For Snapes potions cupboard, i dug out my antique bottles which i found in the woods, reckon it mustve been a rubbish pit at some point coz i found loads! never again will i stumble upon such gems again! and the great thing is one of them already has poisonous imprinted on the glass. Perfect! and then i printed out some labels using these free printables and stuck them on with blu-tack as i didnt want them on there permanently. then filled them with glo sticks as well. Then covered the whole thing with spiders web you can pick up from the pound shop.

Magazines are always great but i do spend a fortune on them! But the best source of ideas are always my customers so when one customer asked if i could make a campervan doorstop it spiralled into a whole new obssession...

At first I did have a look around to see if there was a pattern existing and while there was a knitting version, there was no crochet. So I started on my own version, do you likey??

Please now... no rude jokes about the size of my cucumbers. I know they are rather large and I am very proud of showing them off. This was such an easy crop this year, bung it into a pot, water every day and wowzers they just grow and grow. Though the leaves did get a bit mouldy and im not sure why, but it didnt seem to affect the growing!

Tomatoes are an old favourite and I think this year i have about 4 plants, cherry, medium sized ones and beefsteaks. Though im a little sad coz my huge giant beefsteak was ripening all nice one day and the next had grown giant mouldyness on its bottom. it was a sad day for grow you own. But the ones i did get were the juiciest tastiest ones EVER. I love the taste of a freshly plucked tangy tom!!

Some people have puppies and kittens as substitutes for being childless I have this pumpkin, yes its not conventional but I do care for it on a daily basis making sure it has enough food to eat and water to drink. and no beasties come to bully it. It was a bit of a late bloomer and I had almost resigned myself to being pumpkinless this year but all of a sudden 2 fruits appeared! and the watering can came back out, but to my dismay one of the babies shriveled up and fell off. to say i was devasted was understatment, almost on par with my dismay at tomatoe's mouldy bottom. But 2nd pumpkin is flourishing and is size of my head for now. I will be checking each day for mould and making sure no caterpillars, rabbits or foxes eat my damn pumpkin!!

Of course there are fabby tutorials out there but many are in either US terminology (not good as we live in ol blighty) or have a million pictures which is great if you are learning online but not great to print out and this poor ol earth is feeling the pain from printing out so much bits of paper. So I gave up and wrote me own version of the pattern, taking parts i liked of one and adding in bits of another plus my own titbits I found useful during class.
<span style="font-family: "Courier New", Courier, monospace;">
<span style="font-family: "Courier New", Courier, monospace;">Hope you like and understand it, tis the result of the many manyt feedbacks of at least 2 years worth of granny square students!
<span style="font-family: "Courier New", Courier, monospace;">
<span style="font-family: "Courier New", Courier, monospace;">Enjoy. x
Despite supposedly "working" I did take advantage of being there to have a wee lookie about. There was a bright shiny vintage fire engine, complete with men dressed up in shiny gold hats and axes - all props of course. They also had a nimrod plane specially transported in, now im not a plane geek but Mitchell got a bit excited so must be special. The vintage buses were the best l, I loved all the different varieties and the differences between them for different towns. My favourite was the vintage mini double decker, it was the same size as me!! either that or ive grown alot! For £2 you could have a wee zoom around the track and the driver told me how he had customised it from an old mini!! amazing. A tiny bit gutted I didn't get a chance to have a go on the bus wash or the tiny steam train - ah well, next time. here's hoping they do this event again next year although this was the first one in like a gadzillion years. They haven't done one since they refurbished the King street depot a few years ago.

It was not an easy journey, getting on the property ladder is haaaaard, not least we live in Aberdeen, with its oil rich inhabitants bumping up the prices and banks making it more and more difficult. Tactically we started looking in the winter months in the hope that there are less buyers about, which means less competition, what with christmas looming and everyone being a bit skint. So we found our first property in Dyce, an ex-council 2 and half bedroom (i say half as it fitted little more than a sofa bed) with a garage. not bad, ticks all the boxes and probably wont find better with our budget. Put in an offer and it was accepted straightaway, yus. Will be moved by easter we think, but complications with entry dates meant that the seller pulled out :( annoying but we felt confident that something else would come up and come easter time loads more would be out on the market. But hardly any came up in the following months, by april time we were more than getting a little desparate, time on the mortgage in principle was running out and i was getting rather impatient. a few other good contenders came up but no sooner had we viewed, registered our notes of interest than somebody pulled the rug under our feet and we lost out again. One was on and off the market within 4 days, before we even had a chance to look! Another had woodworm in the home report and being thorough we had decided to get a timber report done, on the day the report was due we were told it was gone!! the other buyers didnt even bother to get a timber report, <strike>well lets hope its infested with worms!! oh dear but thats not very good sportsmanship, shhh i didnt say it.</strike>
<strike></strike>
When we lost the last one, i was losing hope, the competition was too much, it was looking pretty bleak and I was seriously considering some of our 5th, 6ths and 7th choices. But that weekend it was by chance I found THE ONE. Straightway i knew there was potential so this time i knew we had to be quick off the mark. Viewed it on Sunday and i knew i wanted it and i wanted it bad. The garden was amazing with a greenhouse and garage and sun all day, the kitchen was met with squeals of "OMG a PANTRY!!" and then the crowning glory - the floored loft. Perfect office space tucked away from the living space. No way was I able to keep the advised poker face for this viewing, my excitement was bubbling over. Lucky for me that I expressed such an interest as this was what got us the house in the end, we weren't the best offer on the table by far but our enthusiasm for the property certainly helped. The sellers had been the in house for the past 40 years and they really wanted it to be loved like it was loved by their family and not stripped back and sold on for a profit by a developer so we were so so so lucky. And im so happy to be here and so grateful to the sellers for choosing us. Im sure this will be a much loved home and me and mitchell are going to be so happy here. BBQs and hotpot parties all round!!

On May 5th we had a wee vintage stall at The Big Beach Ball, a music Festival organised by the brains behind Snafu and Atheneum. It was a brilliantly gloriusly sunny day, one of those rare no jacket days. Within the confines of the Beach ballroom the combination of music, imported faux beach, and heady atmosphere it really felt like you were abroad somewhere. It was so so nice to have something different and fun in Aberdeen for a change - roll on next year!!

The beach ball was swiftly followed by our 3rd Candybelle fair on the 11th May. Our strategy this time was bigger stall spaces and fresh blood from outwith the Aberdeen area and we were pleased as punch this time round to have attracted vi nouveau who sell re-worked vintage clothing and accessories, Ivy Rose Vintage with homewares and finally Full Circle Vintage and their fab range of hats and vintage dresses. These businesses all hail from the central belt area and really did bring something extra special to our fair. But our homegrown businesses also looked amazing - well done girls!!

Candy Belle day dawned bright and early - 5.30am to be precise. Having not had access to the hotel the night before we had to get in super duper early to set up and sleep deprivation did not serve us well in the morning! Mitchell and myself had a nightmare of a morning when one of the wheels broke off our runner rail. There I was thinking I was so organised, everything was ironed, hung and colour flowed on a runner rail that was stowed away in a nearby garage lent to us by a friend. Then in the morning the idea was to wheel it over to the hotel, 5 mins, boom, done ... or so i thought. We discovered that pesky broken wheel and as we had no other option we had to carry over to the hotel. hmmm not easy when the rail was stuffed full and weighed a ton and the street we had to carry it over was a charmingly old but bumpy cobbled lane. Never before have i been so ungraceful with sweat rolling down my back, not helped by the cosy polyester vintage number i had chosen to wear. It was a real chucklevision moment with frayed tempers and Mitchell shouting at me to "PICK IT UP" and me shouting "ITS TOO HIGH, GO SLOWER!!" My short wee legs did not keep up so well. After 20 mins of this to-ing and fro-ing and having only moved a whole 2ft Mitchell threw down the gauntlet and humpfed the rail onto his back and dragged the rail on its remaining 2 feet the rest of the way. what a star, my hero. haha. <strike>i say that now but i was mad mad mad at him that morning.</strike>
<strike></strike>
Luckily the rest of the day went without a hitch, set up was completed with time to spare to decorate the outside with a pretty pom pom and lace garland. a quick chat with stall holders and im good to go with 20mins left for photographs. But being the numpty I am I didnt check the camera the night before and it was missing a memory card - doh!! well ive scrounged around for some photos and only have a few to share this time :(

Before i knew it the day is over and all other stallholders are packed in a jiffy and it looks like we were never even there. It was another successful and fun day and i hope all who attended had a great time!! See you next time. xxx
Firstly some new ideas have been baking in my head since I discovered the sheldon dolls over by Amidorable Crochet ... i haven't finished yet so dont want to give away too much but here is the progress so far.

The sheldon doll has inspired this project, the doll is complete with snug fitting grey boxers. I think this time i will crochet a pair and make up the pattern.

Also been making a few of these cute kitsch tea cosys, these will be making their way to the CandyBelle vintiques fair. This came about after a wee poke in the right direction from my neighbours at Bead Pop alongside a major light bulb moment during one of my classes, i noticed i kept sending folks over to John Lewis to get this needle or that wool and I thought - why am i doing this?? shouldn't I be profiting from this instead of a big multinational?? Don't get me wrong I love John Lewis but an extra pound in my pocket shouldn't harm their bottom line too much.

So I did some detective work over christmas, in particular I was looking for Hoooked zpagetti. This was introduced to me by Babs of Rocking Stitch. This lovely lady hails from Holland and attended one of my crochet classes to initiate herself into the Aberdeen craft scene whilst meeting some new buddies at the same time. She was kind enough to bring back this yarn after her holidays and I have to say i was hooked (literally). So in my christmas eating haze I found the supplier after much sleuthing and quickly registered to become a stockist and hoooked has finally landed and it has been a super success! It is a fab yarn as its lovely and chunky and to add to your green credentials it is a by-product of the textile industry so each cone could be a slightly different shade and fabric so it makes it all the more exciting. Only drawback being the troublesome knots you inevitably get but I suppose with it being a recycled product it would be hard to find great big bits to make into the yarn. but the knots are easily hidden inside so its really no biggie.

I have been busy making doily mats (which has been turned into a intermediate crochet class) and a knitted cushion. As the yarn is quite heavy it is quite hard-going on the ol hands but it is sturdy and i reckon it would make fabulous bags and baskets which is my next project .... <strike>after the millions of other projects i have planned.</strike>

It really felt strange to be putting together a spring window while getting pelted with hailstones each time I went outside to check it. Well after months of prep the window was finally put together - do we like??
Looking out the window you would be forgiven for thinking it was deepest winter time with the icy roads and yucky slushy snow. Don't get me wrong i love snow but its not the powdery crunchy stuff, only soggy wet stuff that gives me chillblains and not to mention its MARCH!!

March time is supposed to mean lighter nights, shedding of winter woolies and creme eggs! oh well global warming is having its moment. but time ticks on and so I have been planning the easter window despite the yucky weather. Remember the knitting challenge?? i had an abundance of chicks knitted from the wooly scraps and i am so so pleased with how they turned out - so cute!!!
The sun finally took its hat off for a wee while this week and I took the opportunity to visit the Elgin/Lossie area as some of my handcrafted goodies are being sold in The Tee Shack in Lossie. Excited!! Fingers crossed the good people up north like my wares!
The Tee Shack is a cosy cafe attached to the Cove Sea Links Golf course, stunning views, homebakes and hearty soups makes this a must visit destination if you are ever in the area. Even if your not a fan of golf its worth a visit as I am informed by the lovely Angela who runs the cafe that the area has a microclimate and they always seem to have nicer weather than the rest of the country. Even if its a dreich miserable day in Aberdeen the weather in Lossie and surrounding is always a few degrees warmer and the sun likes to come and play a bit more often. I was lucky enough to catch such a day, absolutely stunning views - judge it for yourself!
Of course my thoughts were dwelling on the highs and lows of I Heart Art's second year of existence - we had a super crazy busy (for us) start of the year and we really felt like we were establishing our brand in the Aberdeen social scene. We did some fun things like the Aberdeen Art Fair, the eco day at Ashley Road school, the Randox Polo Match supported by Princes Trust and of course we won our award at the start of the year.

But then the summer ended and everything went to pot, we moved shop which was all consuming with months of packing, moving and unpacking and still trying to run the business at the same time. Every single moment felt like we were moving heavy boxes to and from the car. Our flat was like an episode of serial hoarders - box upon box upon box. Not to mention we were still mega busy in the run up to Christmas with fairs and events. I think if you had encountered me during this time I may have came across as some crazy headless chicken wifey. But now im feeling all rejunvenated and motivated and my head is semi screwed back on in that I may be able to string together coherent sentences. So having had this time to reflect I feel that the past 6 months have been such a stresshead time that I didnt give I Heart Art the love and attention it needed and I feel it has suffered. Poor ol heart! I need to defib it back to life - stat!
You never know who is out there that might just be interested and need a crafty fix. We finally took that step last Tuesday where we headed south to stonehaven with our first stop being the most mouth-watering of sweet shops.
Just the type of sweet shop that has become lost over time but still brings back so many happy memories. We spoke to the lovely shopkeeper whilst we were in there and it was amazing to find out that the shop has been there since 1899!! whoa that is over 100 years and it's still there, not to mention that the same family that has run the shop since the 1920's. That is no mean feat and we truly need to keep supporting businesses like this to ensure their survival! Definatly worth a visit to fill your boots with lucky tatties and fizzy saucers on the next summery day.

We did a round of the square, leaving a cheeky flyer or two in the town hall then having an awkward moment in a fish n chip shop we jumped back into the car and took the next exit. However, taking the next nearest exit left us in a pickle as to which side of the motorway we were on UH OH!!! woman drivers!! (ps you are a great and careful driver alex). we soon found out we were most definately on the wrong side heading back to Aberdeen. Oh well when life hands you lemons you make lemonade so I suggested we should head to the cults area as it has a few local shoppies that might be friendly.

To cults we go! I love the community spirit in cults and many of our customers come from this area so I knew there were a couple of places that we could put up our posters.

We had success in Terroir, a delicatessen and coffee shop with a delicious home-cooked food and tantalising smells. It looked great too with its vintage singers for display, piled up wicker baskets, chunky chopping boards and cosy bistro feel. I had the french onion soup which was delish and was served up with the cutest little basket for my butters and cutlery. I also loved the wee teapot salt and pepper shakers!
Since October I have made mini-hats, mini-stockings, christmas puds, reindeers, EDF energy dancing peanuts, a tea cosy, chicken and duck egg cozies, and lots and lots of mini-hearts and mini-stars. I feel mini is theme here!

You have already seen the stockings, puds and reindeers so now its time to show you the crochet minis and other cuties i made.
But i have a good excuse, there was the crazy whirlwind of christmas fairs and party bookings at the shop. Then i had a very special visitor for lands afar that I had to take some time out and show her the luvverly sights of bonnie bonnie scotland.

We only had 3 days to cram in as much of scottishness as possible so much planning was needed and first stop was Stonehaven and the Ship Inn for some good ol grub followed by a trek up to dunnottar and its pretty amazing views of the coastline. purty.

A quick drive up north brings us to the sleepy town of Grantown-on-Spey which is a great base for visiting Aviemore and the Cairngorms. And thus day 2 begins with a big, greasy but amazing breakfast at the Mountain Cafe in Aviemore. They have french toast that look like steaks!! We also have dilemma of what to do, visit the reindeers, ride the funicular to the top of the cairngorms, visit a distillery, drive up to inverness and try and catch nessie at play?? The guide at the tourist office suggested we do one thing and stick to that as we didnt have time but we thought bugger it, lets try and get up to the top o the mountain and zoom back down and squeeze in the glenfiddich distillery on our way home to the "deen".

And that is what we did and we were not dissappointed. The mist and pea soup that was cloaking aviemore in a thick foggy cloud was breaking up and the views were pretty sooper dooper.

All in all a pretty damn good day finished off with a hearty meal at Howies and mind boggling drinks in a church. I have not been to the panto since i was 10 but it was pretty good. Even mitchell was chortling away and our canadian friend got most of the jokes despite all the local references of hobos getting their heads stuck in bins and banjo lady.
